Given the behavior of the new coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared at a press conference on March 11 that, due to the alarming levels of spread, severity and inaction, COVID-19 is considered a pandemic.

Pandemics are diseases that spread over more than one continent and are transmitted by contagion. The one caused by the new coronavirus recently discovered would be the first caused by this type of virus and the first to be controlled.

WHO also noted its concern for some countries where the capacity, resources and determination to stop transmission and prevent spread do not exist, making treatment internationally more complex.

Cuba, from the first moment, assumed at the governmental level all the actions of prevention and then of health emergency, which preceded the announcement of the classification as a pandemic. Thus, the Plan for the prevention and control of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19) prepared by the Ministry of Public Health is being adapted in institutions and in all the communities of the national territory, and the measures have been extreme after the appearance of the first confirmed cases in the center of the country, which receive, along with their contacts, the corresponding specialized medical attention.

In the Supreme People's Court (TSP), the health hearing was held this Thursday to inform workers of relevant aspects related to the pandemic and how to protect themselves, a meeting where Dr. Josefa Guerra Pérez, specialist in Health Education in the municipality of Old Havana, He explained the symptoms caused by the new coronavirus, the incubation period, how it is transmitted, what are the risk groups and some measures to prevent the spread.

Guerra Pérez stressed that the virus is deadly, but it is most likely that those infected will recover, a hypothesis that, of the 80,000 people notified in China, more than 70% are recovered and discharged, according to the WHO.

The doctor also commented on the epidemiological situation of the municipality where the headquarters of the TSP is located and what are the action protocols in the event of a suspected case of infection and the confirmation of this, exclusively, by the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute u another already designated health institution.

The specialist was emphatic about the importance of not self-medication, disinfection of workspaces and objects of common use, frequent hand washing and self-care of health, as well as the need to increase risk perception on an individual level. before COVID-19.

On behalf of the TSP leadership, Vice Presidents Maricela Sosa Ravelo and Yamir Rodríguez Tamayo shared with those present the content and actions of the Plan that will be developed in the Court System to prevent and confront the disease. The workers raised doubts, questions and asked for clarification regarding the ways of acting in the face of this health emergency.

Said plan was approved by the Governing Council of the TSP and its general objective is to implement prevention and control measures to reduce risk and damage to the institution's staff and their families. A Temporary Working Group created for this purpose is responsible for the deployment; likewise, in each court and the Judicial Training School, a group will be formed that will also be in charge of complying with these actions.

At the meeting it was revealed that staying informed, the conscious participation of people, constant vigilance in the workplace and the community, and a rapid response to the detection of a suspected case are the essential actions that will decide the advance or recession of the virus that is already present in more than 100 countries today.
